… So full was I of slumber at the moment
In which I had abandoned the true way …
Dante Alighieri: The Divine Comedy, Inferno 1
Radka Bodzewicz's largest solo exhibition to date, created especially for Bold Gallery, explores the theme of Dante's Divine Comedy. The journey takes viewers through the three phases of post-mortal existence - Inferno, Purgatory, and Paradise - which the graduate of Vladimír Kokolia's studio at Prague's Academy of Fine Arts portrays as an emotional or psychic state and relates it to today's everydayness. In her latest works of figural abstraction, Bodzewicz has fully exploited the possibilities of her own original technique, which mixes principles of painting, graphics, drawing, and sculptural modelling. In addition, she presents here for the first time the results of her experimentation with the expansion of traditional painting using elements of virtual reality, literally giving classical pictorial space an entirely new dimension. The project is accompanied by an interactive catalogue with commentary by exhibition curator Radek Wohlmuth.
