"...Při tvorbě sochy je interakce mezi umělcem a dílem velmi smyslná a citlivá, ale při vystavování je vztah mezi divákem a dílem pouze vizuální, což ho pro mě omezuje. Socha jako šperk je dotvořena pouze interakcí s člověkem a nemá samo o sobě cíl jako izolovaný objekt, ale je dovršeno splynutím s nositelem.
Při cestování mezi Buenos Aires a Paříží jsem se musela omezovat na práci ve stále menších formátech. Kromě toho bylo umění těchto zemí původně užitkové nebo ornamentální a já chci pokračovat v této tradici. Pojem neužitečné umění patří k severozápadní akademii, která byla vnucena s evropskou invazí do Ameriky. Hledám křížení obou tradic. V tvorbě mě ovlivnila laboratoř mého otce, venkovského veterináře. Myslím, že z toho vesmíru vzorků, baněk a mikroskopů se vynořuje velmi organická imaginace s existenciálními otázkami, která prochází celou mou prací..."
Paloma Mejia vystudovala výtvarné umění na Národní univerzitě umění a poté kurátorství a umělecký management na ESEADE (School of Economics and Business Administration) v Buenos Aires. V sochařství a šperkařství se poté vzdělávala v Paříži, kam se v roce 2022 také přestěhovala.

"...When making a sculpture, the interaction between the artist and the work is very sensual and sensitive, but when exhibiting, the relationship between the viewer and the work is only visual, which I find limiting. The sculpture as jewellery is only completed by interaction with the person and does not have an end in itself as an isolated object, but is completed by merging with the wearer.
Traveling between Buenos Aires and Paris, I had to limit myself to working in increasingly smaller formats. Besides, the art of these countries was originally utilitarian or ornamental and I want to continue this tradition. The notion of non-utilitarian art belongs to the Northwest Academy, which was imposed with the European invasion of the Americas. I'm looking for a crossover between the two traditions. My work has been influenced by the laboratory of my father, a rural veterinarian. I think out of that universe of specimens, flasks and microscopes emerges a very organic imagery with existential questions that runs through all my work..."
Paloma Mejia studied Fine Arts at the National University of the Arts and then Curatorial Studies and Art Management at ESEADE (School of Economics and Business Administration) in Buenos Aires. She then trained in sculpture and jewellery making in Paris, where she also moved in 2022.
