Theodor W. Adorno: The Dream Protocols
For Moemi Yamamoto (*1985), dreams are an inspiring part of life and a kind of refuge. The exhibition prepared for Bold Gallery presents this year's AVU graduate with a series of recent paintings that are based on them. Although they reflect the hidden life of the subconscious rather than waking existence, they can be considered biographical. They are characterized by a strange timelessness, immobility and a compulsive sense of alienation. The unique visual mode combines Japanese parallel perspective and gothic stylization, leading to a symbolic reading. Although the paintings depict dreams, they are reactions to our world and say more about it than they may seem.
