BOLD is not only the name of the gallery located in Prague’s Holešovice Art District dedicated to the best of contemporary and modern art as well as cultural and historical artifacts from around the world, but it’s also one of the primary characteristics of the Japanese samurai. Bold Gallery has organized an exhibition entitled Bushido: The Way of the Samurai, dedicated to the world of the samurai as the highlight of its spring exhibition schedule. Why bushido? The ancient theme of martial arts is surprisingly relevant in the contemporary world. In addition to several extremely rare historical sets of armor, swords, helmets, iron masks, sword guards, and other authentic treasures of Japanese handicraft related to the Way of Warrior, the exhibition will also feature works of Japanese art - painted folding screens, scroll paintings, calligraphy, and woodblock prints. Accompanying the exhibition will be a program of expert lectures, guided tours, and live martial arts demonstrations by Jakub Zeman and his retinue of Way of the Warrior followers. The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue, which, in addition to detailed descriptions of the rarities on display, includes contemporary stories and an outline of the philosophy of bushido, from its Zen roots through its role in shaping the “soul of Japan”. The exhibition will also feature a digital three-dimensional model of Japanese armor.
