The exhibition Prequel presents an open body of paintings created between 2011-16, which were until recently stored in the artist's birthplace near Tokyo. Already then, Moemi Yamamoto's works had a magical character, touching on dreamlike imagery and drawing on the visuality of the museum exhibitions and kunstkomori she visited during her travels in Italy, just as they do today. Their protagonist, however, is a mysterious "yellow man" with a face resembling a conch shell. Half human being, half nature spirit - an obsessive motif with a strange erotic charge, whose simple presence brings tension to the scenes depicted and unexpectedly transforms their tone.
The opening will be attended by the artist herself and the curator of the exhibition Radek Wohlmuth.
