Rastislav Podhorský

In Rastislav Podhorský's oil paintings we observe figures in simple, yet disturbing situations. They are captured in intimate and often absurd performative moments, thus questioning the reality presented and raising many questions. The artist uses the symbolism of banal objects or body language, which he combines into original compositions that create a sense of timelessness, but also of urgent temporality. Although he does not offer clear answers, he creates a wave of interpretations, associations and introspective experiences with mere narratives. The paintings are dominated by a sleepy pace, a dreamlike atmosphere or a tendency towards melancholy and unspecified gravity. We perceive a sense of (in)security, we observe fragility and vulnerability, but also stimulating surreal and magical moments.
