Arang Choi b. 1992

Arang Choi's work is inspired by botany and the animal kingdom, and she is fascinated by strange and rare natural species that blur the lines between reality and fantasy. At the centre of her oil paintings are the fictional creatures of Émulb (backwards: Blume), which appear in various forms and stages of development. They change from painting to painting, sometimes containing human fragments and dominated by deep, breathtaking vistas. The artist is inspired by animism, the belief that everything, animate and inanimate, has a soul. Her pictorial world offers a playful, dreamlike reality that encourages one to transcend the limits of rational perception and opens up new possibilities for one's own imagination.
