Kristýna Matalová is a graduate of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Ostrava. Although she works exclusively with painting, she studied - like the important Czech painter Vojtěch Kovařík - in the drawing studio of Josef Daňek. The exhibition We All, held at the Bold Gallery, is not only the first solo exhibition in Prague, but above all the first comprehensive show of Kristýna Matalová ever. She works primarily with large formats, in which she works with the principle of a certain mirroring. The author's main theme is that of women. She herself is a prefigurement of her own female figures, which she arranges in often liminal and disturbing positions and postures. She is also inspired by her studies trip to South Korea. Matalová projects into her paintings the experiences of the young generation there, which is coping with the pressures of a dynamic and demanding domestic society. Also important for Matalová is the form in which she presents herself as a painter. She paints with large gestures, elaborate shades of black colours. Working with shadows and light is also essential. She mirrors a woman in a variety of moments, situations and states. both physical and mental.
